Gerald Moore Gallery, Eltham College

Gerald Moore Gerald Moore Gerald Moore Gerald Moore Gerald Moore

This project follows on from our previous involvement in proposals for an art gallery and performance space for this independent secondary school in South East London. Part funded by Old Ethamian Gerald Moore, this new project for the school will create a dedicated space for art and sculpture which will be used as a learning resource for pupils, as well as for the local community. The gallery will house a collection of Gerald Moore's work, and will also show contemporary works in a variety of forms, including works from major collections.  The aim of the gallery is to bring quality, innovative art practice to the school and to the local area.  Eltham College will also be able to offer opportunities to artists, the local community, schools, colleges and universities, and will also offer a range of exhibitions, events, workshops, classes, work experience and opportunities for people to engage with the gallery.

The scheme creates gallery and teaching spaces on two floors, with a further gallery created by the linking corridor with an adjoining building. Structured in steel framing with timber upper floors, the structural scheme creates what we would call an art shed, in a programatic and cost effective way, and is due to be completed just before Christmas 2011.
