As well the ubiquitous removal of spine walls, we also produced the structural design for a number of other components on this project. The rear of the property has a steeply terraced garden, and part of the brief was to rationalise the terracing to create useable flat areas; a curved brick retaining wall, arching against the adjoining garden retaining walls worked well. Light was introduced into the rear of the existing lower ground floor by glass floor and glass roof to the rear extension. The final touch was the timber stair; a steel tube newel post providing central support for the structural timber treads.
