This project is the latest in a series of public lavatories that the team have produced for the Council as part of a rolling programme of replacement. The structure comprises a steel frame on mass concrete foundations, with a timber framed roof. The architectural theme that runs through all of the projects is to float the roof above the walls, and to raise the walls off the ground; both ideas have a utilitarian function as well as being an architectural device. To protect the frame in an aggressive seaside environment, the steel is hot dipped galvanised before being painted.
