Glass panels were used to stabilise laterally and lock in place the aluminium structure. The flat panels have a faceted geometry to fit the curved profile, and simple clamp connections through the toughened glass were used to fix them to the frame.
These structures were conceived as finely worked elements, so as to contrast with the brutality of the existing concrete structures. A cast aluminium form was chosen so as to provide a durable and cost effective way of generating the designers wish for a curved structure. An interlocking connection between the secondary and primary beams was developed, that required no bolts, and which seemed an appropriate solution. This resulted in a structure that was very quickly erected in a busy and congested location.
