House for the Future 1999 Competition

Jestico + Whiles have won a competition to design a ‘house for the future’ prototype. The house will be built at the Museum of Welsh Life in Cardiff, and BBC Wales is filming the design and construction of the project. The house has been designed to be responsive to changes in family structure and work patterns, while also using sustainable materials and technologies. The house, which will have newspaper insulated walls and a structural frame of locally grown timber, will be tested by a BBC family for two weeks following completion. Work on site commenced in October 1999.
