Working with Barton Engineers

We are always interested in hearing from engineers with talent and passion, at all levels of experience, who are interested in working for a progressive and award winning company. Barton Engineers is a company that prides itself on providing excellence in the realm of structural engineering, and our company ethos is built around creativity, consistency, and passion for engineering design. If you join us you will be expected to work hard at upholding and promoting these values at all times. Our work load is extremely varied both in scale and type of project. The office environment is stimulating and fun, and we aim to offer as much responsibility and experience as employees wish to take on. We also expect our staff to live rich cultural lives and to contribute to society in general outside the relatively narrow realm of engineering and construction. Wages are very competitive and we have been operating a very successful staff development plan and bonus scheme for a number of years.

Anyone who thinks they have what it takes should send us their CV by e-mail to cv@bartonengineers.co.uk - All CVs should be in PDF format, and we are very happy for you to include images of your work and a covering statement, but please include these on a single CV file no larger than 500k.

We try to acknowledge receipt of all applications within two working days, and to respond within 14 days. We do not use agencies under any circumstances.

Currently we have a good workload, considering the present industry conditions, and we are particularly interested in hearing from people for the following positions:

Project Engineers:

We are currently looking for project engineers with a minimum of four years experience working in a design office on structural design work, who must be capable of running medium sized projects on a day to day basis, carrying out scheme designs, attending meetings and site monitoring visits, and dealing with architects and contractors. You will work directly for a Director or Project Director, and be able to organise and control a small team of Design Engineers. You will either be an MIStructE, or coming up to take the Chartered Membership Exam of The Institution of Structural Engineers. Most importantly you must be able to demonstrate creativity, a thorough understanding of structural engineering, good problem solving ability, and a passion for the built environment. We work on challenging projects; we need people capable of meeting these challenges.

Graduate Engineers:

We have now recruited all of our Class of 2011 Graduates, and will not be accepting any more applications from graduate engineers with less than three years design office experience.

If you wish to apply for the 2012 graduate intake, to commence work during July to September 2012, please apply after 1st March 2012. We will not be considering any applications before that date. Please note that our next graduate programme commences on or before the 5th September 2011, and we will not accept later start dates.

As well as a good academic record, all applicants must be able to demonstrate strong creativity, a thorough understanding of structural engineering, good problem solving ability, communication skills and a passion for the built environment. They will already be a student member of the Institution of Structural Engineers. We work on challenging projects; we need people capable of meeting these challenges. We offer excellent experience and training towards the Chartered Membership Exam for both IStructE and ICE. Finally, if you are asked to an interview with us we will expect you to bring along a strong portfolio of design work in hard copy format (no laptops please) to demonstrate your skills and ambition.

Intern or Student Placements:

We have a policy of always employing undergraduate students on short term contracts. All have enjoyed the experience and in many cases have completed significant elements of project work that stand them in good stead for their future careers. However, we have no places for Summer 2011. If you wish to apply for work experience commencing after 1st June 2012 please apply after 1st April 2012. We do not have any more student or intern places until 1st June 2012.
