This is a new primary school for the village of Owermoigne in Dorset, and is funded by the Diocese of Salisbury. The population of the surrounding villages has expanded rapidly over recent years, and this is the first phase of what will eventually become a three form entry primary school. The architectural programme sets out classrooms, assembly hall, and secondary teaching spaces around a central landscaped courtyard. Around the perimeter each class has an external space or garden, and whole is bounded by a perimeter wall containing openings allowing glimpses of the surrounding rural landscape.
In an attempt to address the Egan agenda the structure comprises a steel frame, steel deck roof, and walls of off site manufactured timber structural insulated panels. The assembly hall roof trusses incorporate parallam beam components. The first phase was completed in June 2006 and the school opened in September.
